About Me

As-Salamu `alaykum.   Peace be with you.

With over 6 billion people on this earth, it is quite fascinating that we are able to stop for a moment to get to know one another - even briefly. The name my parents blessed me with is Diana Ahmad Shaibi, the more I learn the meaning of my name the more I find that it personifies me - for example: Diyanah (Diana) in Arabic means a religion, and this is something I have always been passionate about. I am Palestinian from Jerusalem, the land of the top three monotheistic religions of the world. I was born in Jordan, and came to California at three years old. Most of my youth was spent in Rancho Cucamonga. I went to Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga. I had many career ambitions. I wanted to be an artist, actress, religious studies professor, a nurse, a psychologist, a gymnast, until I realized I could do all of these in one profession: teaching. I went on to Chaffey Community College, and then to University of California Riverside. I got my Bachelor's degree in 2004 in Liberal Studies and Majored in Religious Studies and Minored in Education. I took a 6 year hiatus from school (you know, life happens), and went back to Cal Poly Pomona in 2012 and got my teaching credentials and now I'm working on my Masters.

Technology is absolutely fascinating. I remember looking at flyers in high school and thinking, "How'd they do that?" I learned Photoshop as a result. Throughout college, and until now, I make flyers for lots of non-profit organizations for fun. I really think my skills need to be heightened, because I'm sure there is still so much more to learn. I've also made short videos on Windows Movie Maker. I've put together school year books and end of the year videos. I love graphic design, and I am excited about learning some new skills!

I know that I am very interested in Multimedia Education, but I am not sure where I want to take it professionally. Personally, I am excited to use the new skills I learn to enhance the quality of work that I submit to non-profit organizations; however, professionally, I am not sure exactly where I want to take it, but I know I want to do "something" with it - so there's a start.

  4. Hi Diana,

It's nice to see a familiar face, I remember you from a couple of my credential classes although I never got the chance to talk to you! Thank you for sharing this, it's really awesome. With so many people out in the world, so little time, and our fast paced society we hardly get to stop and get to know people. It really is amazing to learn about where people come from and what they're all about! Best of luck and I'm looking forward to having class with you this quarter.

  5. Hey Diana,

It was nice getting to chat a bit last week during our walk back from Panda Express. Although we did not have a discussion per se, we touched upon religion and politics a bit. I too hope for peace in the Middle East; unfortunately, a lack of peace (read...war) in the Middle East can and probably will affect the entire world...for better or for worse. Let us hope that a diplomatic solution can be realized. I also applaud your desire to volunteer for various (nonprofit) causes. I have given it much thought (over the past year), and would also like to use the skills I acquire in the EMM program to help various nonprofits to improve their websites--their proverbial 'face' to the world. This would help to grow their funding efforts.
